Donor Newsletter Issue 1 Article I
February 1st began Orlando Shakespeare Theater’s biggest fundraising campaign of the year, participating in United Arts’ Campaign for the Arts. Two weeks into the official campaign and thanks to donors like you designating Orlando Shakespeare Theater, we’re already 37% to our goal of $250,000!
Funds raised will go towards producing our bold professional theater (such as next season’s Spamalot), developing new plays, and providing innovative educational experiences that enrich our community.
Recently we announced our 2015-2016 season consisting of Monty Python’s Spamalot, Bakersfield Mist, a TBA holiday show, Dancing Lessons, The Tempest, Pericles, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. (Editor’s Note: Click here for show descriptions)
While we do have our Signature Series, Orlando Shakespeare Theater produces shows for all ages. Next season families can come together and welcome The Frog and The Princess, Magic Tree House: A Ghost Tale for Mr. Dickens, and Elephant and Piggie’s: “We’re in a Play!”
Our Children’s Theater Coordinator, Jennifer Bonner, knows all about the magic of theater and the effect it has on children today:
“Standing ovations, engaging discussions about relevant issues and newly developed intrigue about theatre are all things I experience every day I come to work. I see students experiencing theatre for the first time. I see it open their eyes to the world in a way only theatre can. I see them forget their problems for a little while and to quote To Kill A Mockingbird experience things from other points of view….to “climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” I see theatre change young people daily. I receive letters and comments expressing the good that theatre has done for young people. Theatre educated the whole child. Visually, emotionally, mentally. Giving them a bright spot in a dark time or just generally made their life more beautiful. And that is what we do here. We makes lives more beautiful. We make Art.”
And we’re proud to make art.
YOU make it possible for us to make art.
We still have quite a bit to go and thank you for helping us on our journey to bring the magic of theater to Central Florida. Gifts donated through April 30th will receive a 15% match! For more information please visit http://www.unitedarts.cc.
