Behind the scenes at Orlando Shakespeare Theater

New Addition to the Family & Cymbeline Opening Night!

For the past 9 months, everyone has been baby crazy here. Our Director of Marketing, Melissa Mason, was going to have her first baby. And finally, on February 10th, the wait was over: Calvin Daniel was born! He came into this world a happy and healthy baby, and it couldn’t have happened to a more wonderful person.

Throughout her pregnancy, Melissa worked tirelessly to finish every piece of her marketing plans for future shows.  She made sure every job and task was going to be covered by another staff member during her maternity leave. Nothing was left undocumented. She surprised everyone by continuing to work all the way up to the day before she gave birth.  Her kindness, compassion, and diligence is inspiring to all of us!

As a small thank you, the cast, crew, and staff at Orlando Shakes shot this video on Calvin’s birthday:

Cymbeline had a marvelous opening night last Friday, and other than a few minor mishaps with the stage trapdoor, everything went swimmingly. The audience was open and responsive, and gave a rousing round of applause at the end. Melissa was sorely missed as the usual emcee for the pre-show chat, but Lisa and Jim put on such an entertaining set including an interactive summary of the play and a discussion on Shakespeare and the context of the piece. We’ll all about making Shakespeare more accessible to everyone and this presentation definitely helped with the overall understanding of the text. Edible Orlando, being the rock stars that they are, provided some miniature treats for the party at the end of the night.

And even though Melissa gave birth on opening day, she checked in with us to see how everything was going. How’s that for determination?!
