Rehearsals, Classes, and Performances…Oh My!
This week, the majority of us interns are working double duty, and it’s exhausting (in the best sense of the word)! We’re all in our last week of the Classic Rep, which sometimes means two shows in a day. Additionally, most of us are now in rehearsal for upcoming Orlando Shakes shows! A few of our group are rehearsing for Charm, which is the final Signature Series show of the season, and a bunch of us are rehearsing for the final show in the Theater for Young Audiences season. The children’s show is called Alexander Who’s Not Not Not Not Not Not Going to Move, and I’m fortunate enough to be working on it!
Alexander… is a musical adaptation of one of the children’s books written by Judith Viorst, and features the same Alexander who once had a “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.” This time around, Alexander finds out that his family has to move a thousand miles away, and he decides that there’s no way he’s going to move!
The theme at the heart of the show is that home is wherever your family is, and the music is catchy, fun, and sweet. We’ve got six actors playing multiple roles: boys playing girls, girls playing boys, people playing dogs… oh yeah, we’ve got it all!
We started rehearsals this Tuesday, and have already learned the music and a bunch of choreography. It’s a lot of fun, though the interns in the cast are pretty wiped out by the end of the day—Friday, for example, we have a morning show of Midsummer, rehearsal for Alexander in the afternoon, and a performance of Pride and Prejudice in the evening. Saturday looks pretty similar, except that we’ll teach classes in the morning instead of performing (though it’s equally tiring). We’re definitely giving it our all during the day, but I’ve been falling into bed pretty hard at night, haha…
Seeing the Rep end will be bittersweet, for sure. I’ve had a blast with those shows, but I’ll be much less sleepy next week!
